Governor Profiles

Roger Blackburn
Headteacher
I am Headteacher at Queen Eleanor’s and have been in post since September 2010. I love working at QE and feel very privileged to have the opportunity to continue the development of this great school. I have served on many governing bodies in my time and have been staff governor in every school I have worked in. As Headteacher I serve on all of the committees and sub committees. This is a very exciting time for QE as there are a number of new and exciting initiatives coming up over the next few years. The governors and I work very closely to provide the best possible opportunities for the children in our care. I have many different hobbies and interests including supporting my beloved Tottenham and snowboarding. I live with my wife Laura, who is also a teacher, in Godalming.

Elizabeth Paoli
Foundation Governor
I have been on the governing body since 2009 first as a parent governor and then in 2010 as a foundation governor. I have two daughters at Queen Eleanor’s and I support the children’s committee. In my professional capacity I work as a Behaviour Analyst in a special need school. This involves understanding why children behave disruptively and putting effective strategies in place to resolve the issues. My interests are challenging behaviour and reducing the barriers to learning for those with difficulties. I am delighted to be part of the governing body team and aim to contribute to the benefit of all the children within the school.

Hannah Greenfield
Chair of Finance and Staffing Committee
Foundation Governor
I studied Mathematics with Music at the University of Surrey, and liked Guildford so much that I stayed in the area. I am an active member of All Saints’ Church in Onslow Village, directing the handbell team and co-leading the children’s choir there. I really enjoy being part of the Governing Body of Queen Eleanor’s. I started as a member of the Finance and Staffing Committee in September
2009, applying my skills from my work as an auditor, and became Chair of the committee in December 2010.

Mark Powell
Foundation Governor
I have been a governor since October 2010, almost coinciding with the arrival of Roger Blackburn. I am a Foundation Governor, representing All Saints Church, with my additional responsibilities being on the Premises, Health + Safety Committee, as well as the marketing working group whose main responsibility is the school’s website, as well as other publicity for the school. I have 3 children who are currently at St Nicolas’ and nursery but will all be going to Queen Eleanor’s in the coming years. QE will be undergoing a significant amount of change over the next few years and I believe it is our duty to ensure we make full use of our resources and give our children the best education possible, not just academically but in terms of their faith, and social and physical development.

Cllr David Goodwin

I joined Queen Eleanor’s Governing body in 2007 as its Local Education Authority (LEA) Governor and I’m a member of the Premises, Health and Safety committee. I am also a Governor at St Nicolas Church of England school on Portsmouth Road, Guildford.
I have lived in Guildford with my wife and daughter for sixteen years. I am elected as both a Guildford Borough Councillor and Surrey County Councillor through which I help constituents with their problems and concerns on local issues.

James Heaphy
Vice Chair of Governors
Foundation Governor
I have been a governor at QE for over 5 years, having been appointed as a Foundation Governor for All Saints Church. My youngest daughter is in Year 6, while my oldest daughter studied at QE before going onto County School, where she is currently in Year 10. I am a member of the Finance committee, so I am especially interested in the management of the school’s finances, in order to maximise benefit for all the children who attend QE.

Lorna Hines
Teacher Governor
I decided quite early on in my life that I wanted to be a teacher, following in my Mum’s footsteps, and so spent four years at University in Worcester training to do this. After completing my degree I moved back to Surrey and started working at Wyke Primary, teaching years 5 and 6; I then moved to Northmead Junior in Guildford teaching in years 6 and 3. During that time I have bought my house and am enjoying living in Guildford! Outside of school I enjoy horse riding, swimming and I am a big fan of rugby, particularly supporting my team: London Wasps. I’m also partial to a spot of reading and find you can’t beat lying in the sun with a good book!

Jill Stobbart
Non-teaching Staff Governor
I was elected as a staff governor at the end of 2009 and am finding it both interesting and challenging. I especially like being involved in the Marketing working party. I have worked in the office at QE since September 2003. Before that I worked at Boxgrove School as manager of their after school club. I was also a parent governor there for 4 years.
I live in Woking and have 2 children, 19 and 23.

Sarah Gearon
Parent Governor
I was delighted to become a Parent Governor in June 2012. I am now a member of the Children’s Committee, the link governor for Special Educational Needs & the Child Protection Representative. My oldest son is now in Year 4, and my youngest in YR 2 at Onslow Infants. After graduating from UCL as a Speech & Language Therapist, I worked for the NHS for many years in schools in London & Devon. More recently, I was employed by a Special School, where I was Head of the Speech & Language Dept for 5yrs. During that time, I experienced (& survived) two OFSTED Inspections. Currently, I’m working independently. I like to think that I am approachable & hope to represent QE parents to ensure the best for all our children.

Katherine Thompson
Foundation Governor
I joined the governing body as a Foundation Governor for All Saints Church in July 2012 and currently sit on the Finance and Staffing Committee. I currently have one daughter in year 4 and another 3 who will all come through the school over the next decade so I look forward to being involved in the school for some time to come. Having studied English Literature and Language at University of Wales in Bangor, North Wales, I then qualified as a solicitor working in the corporate and commercial department of a London firm until having children. Since then I have been involved in the Guildford branch of the National Childbirth Trust in various roles and recently have gone back to work part time as a consultant to a FSA regulated firm. Outside work I enjoy singing and am a member of Guildford Choral Society.
